About the sessions

Maternity photographer in Jamaica,
Montego Bay and Negril.

Families travelling to Jamaica during pregnancy often ask whether it is worth planning a maternity session while they are here. The answer is almost always yes. Jamaica has some of the most extraordinary natural light in the Caribbean, and that light is particularly flattering for maternity photography. Warm, soft, and directional in the hour before sunset, it does things that studio lighting simply cannot replicate.

As a maternity photographer based in Montego Bay, I work at resort properties and private villa locations across the north coast and travel island-wide for sessions in Negril, Ocho Rios, and beyond. Most clients are visiting Jamaica between 28 and 34 weeks, which is typically the most comfortable window for outdoor sessions in the warmth and produces the clearest shape in the photographs.

Sessions are unhurried and unposed. The pace follows yours. Partners are always included, older children can join if you want to document the family before the new arrival, and the session is planned entirely from abroad before you arrive so there is nothing to organise on the island.

Share your dates, where you are staying, and how far along you will be. I will take it from there.

"The light in Jamaica in that last hour does something that is very difficult to replicate anywhere else. It is the reason these photographs look the way they do."

Resorts and locations

Maternity photography at resorts
and beaches across Jamaica.

Along the north coast, Half Moon Resort offers a long private beach, open lawns, and a bougainvillea garden that photographs beautifully in warm afternoon light. Round Hill Hotel and Villas has limestone walls, estate gardens, and a pier extending into exceptionally clear water. Tryall Club works well for sessions that include partners or older children across its wide grounds and beach.

For clients staying in Negril, Rockhouse Hotel sits on the cliffs above the Caribbean Sea and produces images unlike anything else on the island. Rose Hall and Pimento Hill House both work well for maternity sessions that favour lush gardens and architectural settings over beach. I am a preferred vendor at all of these properties, which simplifies access considerably.

Private villa sessions are common for maternity photography and often produce the most relaxed results. If you are staying at a villa, share the name and I will advise on timing and the best areas of the property to work with.

Montego Bay

Half Moon Resort, Round Hill Hotel and Villas, Tryall Club, Rose Hall, and private north coast beaches and villas.

Negril

Rockhouse Hotel, Seven Mile Beach, and quieter cove locations. The west-facing coastline means extraordinary warm light directly facing you at golden hour.

Private Villas

Gardens, pool terraces, and ocean-view settings at villa properties island-wide. Often the most relaxed environment for a maternity session, with complete privacy and flexibility on timing.

Island-wide

Ocho Rios, Port Antonio, Pimento Hill House, and beyond. Happy to travel anywhere on the island for the right location and light.

Timing

Best time for a maternity session
in Jamaica.

The best light for maternity photography in Jamaica is in the hour before sunset, typically between 4:30pm and 6pm depending on the time of year. The light is warm, directional, and soft at this time, which is particularly flattering for maternity photography. Sessions begin roughly ninety minutes before sunset to make full use of the available light as it changes.

Morning sessions beginning around 7am to 8am are also available and work well for clients who prefer the cooler part of the day or want a quieter beach with no other guests. The light is soft at this hour too, though different in character from golden hour. I will recommend the right time once I know your location and dates.

What to wear

What to wear for a maternity
photoshoot in Jamaica.

Fabric matters more than outfit. Flowing fabrics move well in the breeze and catch the light in a way that structured or fitted clothing does not. Linen, chiffon, silk, and soft cotton all photograph beautifully in Jamaica's outdoor settings. Warm neutrals work best against the landscape: cream, sand, terracotta, and soft white. Avoid very bright colours or stark white, which can blow out in strong tropical light.

If your partner is joining the session, coordinate rather than match. Tonal combinations in the same warm family look considered without being overly staged. For beach sessions, bare feet are almost always the right choice. For garden or villa sessions, simple sandals work well.

Bringing two outfits gives you variety across the session without overcomplicating it. There is a full styling guide for photography sessions in Jamaica in the journal available here.

Questions

Frequently asked questions
about maternity photography in Jamaica.

When is the best time during pregnancy to photograph in Jamaica?

Most clients photograph between 28 and 34 weeks. That window tends to produce the clearest shape and the most comfort for outdoor sessions in the warmth. Earlier is possible and later depends on how you are feeling. It is worth discussing before booking if you are outside that range.

Can my partner and other children join the session?

Yes. Partners are included as standard. Older children can join if you want to document the family before the new arrival. Sessions with young children are timed with their energy in mind and kept to around an hour to avoid fatigue.

Can you photograph at my resort in Jamaica?

Yes. I am a preferred vendor at Half Moon Resort, Round Hill Hotel and Villas, Tryall Club, Rose Hall, Rockhouse Hotel, and Pimento Hill House. For sessions at other properties, vendor access is arranged in advance. Share your resort and I will advise on what is needed.

What is the best time of day for a maternity session in Jamaica?

The best light is in the hour before sunset, typically between 4:30pm and 6pm depending on the time of year. Morning sessions from around 7am are also available for clients who prefer the cooler part of the day. I will recommend the right time once I know your location and dates.

How far in advance should I book a maternity photographer in Jamaica?

Most clients book three to six weeks before their travel dates. For peak periods including Christmas, New Year, and spring break, earlier is recommended. If your dates are closer than that, it is still worth reaching out as availability does change.

How many photos will we receive from a maternity session?

There is no limit on delivered images. A one hour session typically produces 60 to 100 fully edited images. All images are provided in full resolution via a private online gallery with rights to print and share.

What happens if it rains on the day of the session?

Jamaica's weather on the north coast is generally predictable. If rain affects the session we reschedule to the next available slot at no extra charge. If rescheduling is not possible due to your travel dates, a full refund is provided.

Can you travel to our villa location in Jamaica?

Yes. Private villa sessions are available island-wide. Gardens, pool terraces, and ocean-view settings photograph beautifully for maternity sessions and offer complete privacy. Share your villa location and I will confirm availability and any travel fee that applies.
